Q) Rehana went to a bank to withdraw Rs. 2,000. She asked the cashier to give her Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 notes only. Rehana got 25 notes in all. Find how many notes of Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 did she receive.

Ans:

Let’s consider Notes of Rs. 50 = X

and Notes of Rs. 100 = Y

Also, it is given that Rehana received a total 25 notes,

∴ Notes of Rs. 50 + Notes of Rs. 100 = Total no. of notes

∴ X + Y = 25 ….. (i)

By another given condition, the value of all notes is Rs. 2,000

∴ 50 X + 100 Y = 2000

∴ X + 2 Y = 40 ……….. (ii)

By subtracting equation (i) from (ii), we get:

(X + 2 Y)  – (X + Y) = 40 – 25

∴ X + 2 Y – X – Y = 40 – 25

∴  Y = 15

By substituting this value of Y in equation (i), we get:

X + Y = 25

∴  X + 15 = 25

∴  X = 25 – 15

∴  X = 10

Therefore, Rehana received 10 notes of Rs. 50 and 15 notes of Rs. 100.

Check:

Total counting of notes = 10 + 15 = 25

Total value = 10 x 50 + 15 x 100 = 500 + 1500 = 2000

Since both values match the given conditions, hence our answer is correct.
