Q) From a point on the ground, the angle of elevation of the bottom and top of a transmission tower fixed at the top of 30m high building are 30° and 60° respectively. Find the height of the transmission tower. (Use √3 = 1.73)

Ans:

From a point on the ground CBSE trigonometry applications important questions

Let’s consider AD is the tower in the figure above and BD is the height of transmission tower.

In Δ ADC,

tan 300 =   \frac{AD}{AC}

\frac{1}{\sqrt3} = \frac{30}{AC}

AC = 30 √3

In Δ ABC,

tan 600 =   \frac{30 + h}{30\sqrt3}

30 √3 x √3 = 30 + h

h = 60 m

Therefore, the height of the transmission tower is 60 m.
