Q) An arc of a circle of radius 10 cm subtends a right angle at the centre of the circle. Find the area of the corresponding major sector. (Use π = 3·14)

Ans:   The Area of an arc making θ angle at centre is given by:

A = π r 2 x \frac{\theta}{360}

given the values as radius r = 10 cm, and angle subtended by major sector at center, θ = 900

∴ Area A = π r 2 x \frac{\theta}{360}

= (3.14) (10)2 x \frac{90}{360}

= (3.14) (100) x \frac{1}{4}

= (3.14) (25) = 78.50 cm2

Therefore, the area of major sector is 78.50 cm2.
